Upper Peninsula Overland Frequently Asked Questions

Frank Falcone

1. Is Frank's Shirt on backwards?
It appears that UPO2008 and UPO2009 Repeat Adventurer Frank Falcone does in fact have his shirt on backwards, which is unfortunate because he's actually quite easy on the eyes. This wardrobe malfunction could be attributed to the amount of time Frank spent alone driving in his Hummer H3 all the way up from Chicago to enjoy the Upper Peninsula Overland 2009 trip.

2. Do I need a tricked out 4x4 to do an Overland Trip?
Nope. Stock 4x4 vehicles have done just fine on all but the optional more difficult wheeling sections of the trip, which attendees do not have to drive through. We recommend the basics, a good spare, good tires, camping equipment, etc. UPO2009 was completed by a 1983 AMC Eagle Wagon, and if the Eagle can do it...

3. What sort of camping gear do I bring?
Tent (on top of your vehicle or on the ground is fine). Food, Water, and frankly, anything that you can haul that might be of interest to you during the trip. The only advice we give for loaded gear is to make sure it is secure in the vehicle and not prone to "bounce around" on a gnarly section of road or terrain.

4. I gotta go pee!
We understand. The trips stop routinely allowing you to "go". We do adhere to Tread Lightly and Leave No Trace land use principles, so please touch up on these guidelines for reference!

5. Where's the party!?!
Ok, we get it. You want to head up to the U.P., hit some back roads with some off road buddies and throw down! In that case, Here's The Google so you can find the party. U.P. Overland is a family oriented adventure. We have no problem with people having a good time, but let's try to keep it fun for everyone.

6. Can I bring my dog?
Yep. Leashed, or guaranteed safe.

7. Where are we going?
Weeks before a trip departs we require attendee confirmation and deliver concrete travel itineraries.

8. How much does a trip cost?
Every trip is different. While the UPO Annual Trip has a set fee, most trips vary in either distance, resources or planning and will have their own specific cost. Our number one mission is to make sure a U.P. Overland adventure is cost effective.
