Its bubble. I haven't popped any until yesterday when I was installing my dual battery kit and doing some other wiring. For ~ $15, which is enough to do the front 2/3 of my Pig, I couldn't turn it down. I've 'heard' that McMaster-Carr has some nice closed-cell foam that people use for replacement in FJ60s a lot. I'll try that next...when I have time...

Menards had some closed cell wrap near the HVAC stuff but it was 1/8" self stick and only 12" wide. I might stick 2 of those together and offset them to make something like 18" wide but removable. (I don't want to stick it to the floor there in case the footwells get wet). If it works out I'll post the name of the stuff. I'll check McMaster too... Thanks!

Dual battery kit is installed, sleeping platform is all but finished (probably 20 minutes left until done). Headliner and new windshield go in next Friday.

I am having a problem with an overcharge warning on my primary battery being signaled by the dual battery kit. I've 'tested' my alt and the isolator while the truck is running at idle and everything seems OK except the alt is a bit weak. It is a stock 50 amp alt. I'm planning on installing a GM cs130 alt with 105 amps ASAP - just gotta figure out the wiring as I am far from an electrician.

I noticed PepBoys and Advance Auto both have a jumbo reflective sun shade. It's the bubble stuff, but it looks to be pretty tough, with maybe Mylar bubbles. I might buy one and cut it up. It's about 30x62 if I recall. About $9. I'll let you know how it works out if I try it... Look forward to seeing the Beast. Mine is up on jacks with no tranny or transfer. What a mess in the bellhousing. I'll be doing a really good job of making sure NOTHING can get in there this time, (and if it does, that it can get OUT!). I'll take some pictures once I seal it up, you might want to make sure you have some sort of drain hole on the bellhousing inspection cover of your beast. I think I filled it with water and sand last year from all the miles of puddles and it couldn't drain fast enough. The little bit of sand probably blocked any natural drain spots between the rubber seals on the cover. If there is a little plastic plug on the bottom of your inspection cover, drill it out, or put a small (maybe 1/8") hole next to it. It was "a little wet" on the trip last year.

The sunshade is about the same stuff as Reflectix that you can find at Lowes, and maybe at Home Depot too - the sunshade might be a little tougher but the Reflectix was cheaper.

IIRC I have a drain hole at the bottom of my clutch inspection plate...

Was able to work most of yesterday on the Pig. Got my axe mounted inside with QuickFists - I didn't want for it to be an easy theft target on the outside. Also adjusted my valves (2F is much quieter now), checked the underside of the Pig for leaks and loose bolts - looks good there. Mounted a 10lb CO2 tank on the inside and installed 3 marine-grade DC outlets near my fridge (still need to hook up two but they will have to wait). Checked out two belts I bought as spares from Advance Auto Parts and the geniuses gave me a wrong size even though I gave them the sizes I want written on a piece of paper (which I still have and does not match what they ordered for me) so I have to take those back. Also checked some spare radiator hoses I ordered from Napa and they fit - need one more piece though to go from the water pump down to the T-connector that spurs off to my oil cooler. Also repacked most of my tools and spare parts to make some extra room. I was able to exclude a few things (why the heck was a t-stat in my spare kit?) an I also made a packing list so I hopefully won't forget anything too important on this trip. Last year the wife and I went camping for several days in western NC along the Linville Gorge - well after I set up camp I realized something was missing - all my clothes! :banghead:

The biggest thing I have left to do on my Pig is get the headliner and windshield installed. Hopefully I'll be able to line that up today.

Me "You can get a windshield gasket, right?"
Shop "Yup"
Me "Are you sure? There is only 1 place that I know of that has windshield gaskets and I have to have this ready on time for a trip."
Shop "Yup, no problem."

Shop "We can't find a windshield gasket"
Me :banghead:

I sent 'em a link via email. They want to install the new windshield with the old gasket until the new gasket comes in. The old gasket leaked before it was pulled out and will leak even worse now, not to mention safety concerns. I'm really not too partial to having my new headliner stained with water leaking through an old windshield gasket.

To be continued...

Ask my wife - I was NOT happy last night.

Just talked to the guy, apparently they are going to overnight the gasket in so I have the vehicle Fri or Sat. I'm gonna pay for the overnight charge even though its their fault. I figure $20 or $30 is cheap to make sure it is done ON TIME!!!! (or almost on time) Sometimes you just gotta fork out a bit extra to make sure its done right.

Oh, guy also said he had someone who made custom windshield gaskets, but custom dude said "I don't make any gaskets for Toyotas." I thought that was interesting...
