It's not looking good for me to make the 2012 UPO trip, probably gonna make it up towards the end of August, I've got the .GPX files from the 2009 trip, and I'll probably do Whitefish to Munising.

I'm wondering if you guys can tell me about this route, I'll have my 11 year old daughter with me and I want to be able to see some interesting things.....historical sights, beautiful scenery, waterfalls, I'd really like to camp on the beach, or really close to the shoreline.....I wanna wake up and see that sunrise, and I'd really like to stay on trails and as close to the shoreline as possible.

The only things I know I wanna do for sure is the shipwreck museum on Friday and the Pictured Rocks boat tour whenever we get there.....and camp on the beach.

I'll probably be up on a Thursday night, spend Fri., Sat., Sun. exploring, and head home on Monday morning, with a stop in Newberry to visit family.

I can probably do a lot more driving in three full days, maybe on to Marquette, I'm open to suggestions.

If you follow the shore line back roads there is a very primitive campground on the shore about 1 mile west from the Crisp Point lighthouse. There is a stream that runs along the edge of the camp and dumps into Lake Superior. It was gorgeous when I was there. If you walk the mile down the beach from the campground to the lighthouse there are 2 to 3 shipwrecks either right on the beach or on the edge of the water. 2 years ago there were some nasty horse flies there though - they could draw blood. That beach was absolutely beautiful though.

Here are some pictures from that primitive campsite, it isn't labeled on maps that I can tell, but IIRC it was a state forest campground or national forest campground, so it may be on one of those websites.

I would have more, but these were from a cellphone if I recall as I somehow forgot the SD card and wasn't able to get one until Marquette or someplace.
